IRIS MAREE never uses leather, skin or fur for the production of her bags. She chose to work with various vegetarian leathers for which the scientific term is polyurethane. This leather alternative material is made from cotton of polyester which is coated with a flexible paint and designed to give it the most realistic look and feel of genuine leather. The coating also protects the material from harmful conditions, and due to the fact there are no plasticizers utilized in polyurethane the bags remain smooth and supple.
As a vegan brand we respect animals and never use their skin for our bags. To only work with animal friendly materials we also respect people and the environment. It is reported by the UN animal agriculture and its products, including leather, are leading contributors to climate change, contributing 51 percent or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions. The best way to protect the environment is to adopt a vegan/vegetarian diet and lifestyle.
